Black-tailed Skimmer Orthetrum cancellatum
A medium-sized dragonfly with relatively broad, flattened abdomen, but not as broad as the two chaser species.
Mature males have a fairly dull, often dirty-looking blue abdomen with pale yellow spots on the sides.
Immature males and females are unmistakable, being mostly yellow with black vertical stripes.

Black-tailed Skimmer Habitat
Male Black-tailed Skimmers are one of the more obvious and approachable of the county's odonata, often basking on bare waterside banks, in particular at recently dug ponds and gravel pits. Females are less bold and not encountered as regularly.
