New Cambs Dragonfly Blog!
I had an email from Max Catterwell, praising the LRDG website and wishing there was something like it in Cambridgeshire. I was in one of my funny moods - you know the ones - so I said to Max, well, go and create a blog, it's easy enough. And he did! It's brand new so there's nothing on it yet, but LRDG bloggers can help! The blog is at http://camdrags.blogspot.com/. Take a look, and if you're going to Cambs, ask Max for an invite and post your news.... Good luck Max!

Red-veined Darter:Notable influx this season, inc. 4 at a private site in N Cambs. Lesser Emperor:Again, yet more records, inc. 1 at the same private site in N Cambs. Yellow-winged Darter:A series of records from Lancs presumably relating to local breeding from previous years. Also, records from Norfolk. Southern Migrant Hawker, aka Mediterranean Hawker:Second UK record, and the first for over 50 years, in W Sussex on July 13th. (Photo on BDS website). Interesting to note that there have been numerous records of this species from the near continent this season...

Another survey of the Small Red-Eyed Damselfly population on the reserve produced quite a surprise in terms of numbers present, 180+ males, 70 females, 63 coupled pairs most of which were ovipositing. These numbers may indicate that they are still on the move within the county and more insects are still arriving!Other species recorded were; Brown Hawker - 250+Southern Hawker - 3Migrant Hawker - 2Common Darter - 150+Ruddy Darter - 100+Emperor - 7Black-Tailed Skimmer - 50+Four-Spotted Chaser - 5Common Blue DamselflyBlue-Tailed DamselflyWhite-Legged DamselflyRed-Eyed DamselflyEmerald DamselflyBanded Demoiselle

ALL READERS - PLEASE NOTE...
If you are having trouble viewing the site (looks odd, images and pop-up images missing), you may have to change your bookmarks. This is because we have finally come to a resting place as far as the domain name is concerned, so please change your bookmarks to: http://www.lrdg.org.uk/ for the home page http://www.lrdg.org.uk/latest-dragonfly-sightings.php for the Latest Sightings page/blog Etc. The news page/blog is also more functional now - the individual post pages (none before this post, but this one and from now on) and archive pages should now appear as the other pages on the site do, and be fully functional.
