Banded Demoiselle Calopteryx splendensA large, robust damselfly with flitting, butterfly-like flight. Males unmistakable, with metallic blue-green body and dark band across wings. Females metallic green with yellowish-green tint to wings.

Number of occupied 2km grid squares in Leicestershire & Rutland, up to the end of 2004: 216/720

This species is widely distributed throughout Leicestershire & Rutland and is found along all of the main rivers and streams, and on all canals.

Records indicate that it has always been a common damselfly in the county.
